Support Garfield High School Turf Project

Paul Breckenridge sent the following message. I’m reaching out to give you an update on our effort to secure funding to replace the G3 dirt infield with synthetic turf. Please forward this along to others at SPCC that you think might be interested.

  • Based on a cost estimate that was prepared by DA Hogan & Associates, the total project cost is approximately $1.4 million.
  • Through preliminary private fundraising, we’ve raised $130K and we intend to make another push later this month along with a GoFundMe page.
  • We are working with the City to identify public funding and are hopeful that we will be applying for a public grant of approximately $1 million in early 2025.

Once it is confirmed that we’re going to receive these public funds we will start moving forward with design and permitting, which is about a 12-month process. If all goes well that would set us up for installation of the infield in mid-2026.
We continue to work to garner support. A highlight was earlier this summer three GHS softball players presented to the City of Seattle Parks, Public Utilities and Technology Committee of City Council which is chaired by CM Hollingsworth. You can see their presentation at about the 3 minute 45 second point  https://www.seattlechannel.org/videos?videoid=x157831

Please let me know if you have any questions. We want to be sure that we keep an open line of communication. Also please let me know if there are other community groups that you’re aware of that we should be reaching out to with these updates. Breckenridge Consulting Services, Inc. 206-335-5502.
