Minutes
SPCC President Stefan Schachtell called the meeting to order at 10:05 AM. Introductions, News and Neighborhood Comments followed.
Yun Pitre of the Department of Neighborhoods led a discussion on City of Seattle grants available to community groups. encouraging all to consider neighborhood projects that will qualify for small sparks or community partnership fund grants. Attending the February 11 workshops as shown in our newsletter is recommended for the latter. Find the information here. There are many possibilities. During the meeting attendees expressed interest in grants to help with communications, traffic circle beautification and upkeep and events.
Seattle City Council District 8 (at-large) Representative Alexis Mercedes Rinck introduced her self and let us know that she chairs the Sustainability, City Light, Arts & Culture, is vice-chair of Libraries, Education & Neighborhoods, and is a member of the Housing & Human Services, Land Use, and Transportation committees. She was pleased to announce that the council had just approved her proposed Select Committee on Federal Administration and Policy Changes to respond to possible changes in the federal government policies that would threaten funding to the City of Seattle Mercedes Rinck lives in Squire Park.
Council Member Joy Hollingworth was able to join her District Director Alex Altshuler and Mercedes Rinck for the updates on comprehensive plan updates, timeline and how to contact the council. Audience comments addressed public safety, parking and congestion, timely communications, traffic signal problems and comments on the comprehensive plan. Hollingsworth acknowledged each comment and invited emails to her office. Comments on the comprehensive plan included concerns regarding urban design and livability and the reassignment much of the Central Area to Capitol Hill/First Hill and a comment on liking stacked flats idea. Concern regarding the process for Major Institution Advisory Committeeswas expressed with the feeling that the process is abusive of the community volunteers.
Hollingsworth encourage all to pay attention to transportation issues and the planning for the use of the levy dollars.
A member brought attention and advocated regarding Prop 1A vs 1B ballot measure.
The only motions during the meeting related to SPCC board elections. The motions for each of the new members were made and seconded and unanimously accepted as was the motion for those who were reelected. The reelection motion was made for the group of continuing board members.
New Board members Travis Dobler (moved by Joanna Cullen) and George Hacker Moved by (Kathy Yasi). We also received a note of interest from Lauren Vorona.
Reelected members are Joanna Cullen, Leon Garnett, Joy Jacobsen, Stefan Schachtell, Kathy Yasi, and Bill Zosel.
